Solar energy, biofuels and wind – the best, clean sources of energy to count on in the immediate future

21.04.20234 min read

Renewable energy as solar energy, biofuels and wind – often referred to as “clean energy” – comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished. This is as compared to non-renewable or “dirty energy”, including fuels such as oil, gas and coal.

Why is renewable energy important in the context of sustainability?

  1. It has the potential to provide a ready supply of power without using natural resources.
  2. It reduces the need for imported fuels.

Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015 the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) designed to transform the world as we know it. The United Nations’ goal is to promote prosperity while also protecting the environment. It was a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The seventh of the United Nations’ list of goals is affordable and clean energy: “investing in solar, wind and thermal power, improving energy productivity, and ensuring energy for all is vital if we are to achieve SDG 7 by 2030. Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean and more efficient energy in all countries will encourage growth and help the environment”.

Building Management System

How do Mitsubishi Electric activities support the idea of greater energy efficiency? A fine example is the company’s Building Management System (BMS).

Our innovative building management system (BMS) allows you to centrally manage a single building or multiple buildings across the country, helping keep costs low and reducing energy consumption.

What is Building Management System, and why is it the future of the housing industry?

  • It is an innovative building management scheme that allows for the central management of a single building or multiple buildings across the country, helping keep costs low, lower energy consumption, and satisfy tenants.
  • It collects and analyses detailed data related to the electricity, gas and water used in a building to provide key insights that can help management to greatly reduce the building’s energy consumption

BMS in practice

One of the buildings which has successfully incorporated the BMS is Japan House São Paulo, Brazil, a home for an institution that serves as a global launchpad for contemporary Japanese culture in a diverse range of fields. The building was certified LEED Platinum, the highest LEED level. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a certification programme offered by the US Green Building Council and is considered one of the world’s most reliable green building rating tools. It encourages developers to reduce the environmental burden of their projects by cutting the use of construction materials and energy and employing reusable energy sources.

Other environmentally friendly solutions

Apart from BMS, Mitsubishi Electric is focused on expanding the range of products that contribute to decarbonization and grid stability by making the maximum use of wind, solar and other renewable energy resources without the need to suppress output. Moreover, the company provides energy storage systems for storing various forms of harvested energy.

Here are some examples of those:

  • compress air generation;
  • flywheel generation;
  • pumped hydro generation;
  • thermal generation;
  • flow battery generation.
