Robot maintenance - made easy!

Maintenance costs - an important component of the operating costs of robots

In some cases, maintenance costs can account for a significant proportion of a robot's operating costs.

Especially in industrial applications where robots operate continuously and in demanding environments, maintenance costs can be higher to ensure that the robot operates efficiently and reliably.

Mitsubishi Electric is characterised by user-friendly robot maintenance

Mitsubishi Electric has set itself the task of providing low-maintenance and cost-effective maintenance for robot customers.

We are your competent partner for the entire life cycle of your robot systems.

Trouble-free and low-maintenance maintenance is therefore a core element in our product development and service offering. Our reliable service guarantees smooth operation and predictable, maximum productivity.

Advantages of our robot maintenance

Click on the following points to find out more about the advantages of our easy-care robots:

Many maintenance options

Our aim is to make the maintenance of Mitsubishi Electric robots as simple as possible.

For this reason, we provide training courses that enable you to carry out maintenance independently of the manufacturer's maintenance and thus achieve cost savings.
We offer products that use AI functions to detect robot failures and make predictions about the service life of components and robots.

We also offer a cloud solution in the area of maintenance that can display the status and condition of all robots in your production facility at a glance.

Cost savings through maintenance that can be carried out independently

Independent maintenance of robots is a cost-effective and flexible option to ensure that your robot systems function optimally while keeping costs under control.

Independent maintenance offers companies the opportunity to realise cost savings. Independence from third-party providers and manufacturers increases control over maintenance processes and allows companies to set their own schedule. This leads to reduced downtime and increased productivity.

New business model by offering maintenance to end customers

System integrators have the opportunity to not only offer the actual robot solutions through Mitsubishi Electric robots, but also to provide maintenance services as an added value.

It is crucial to build and maintain strong customer loyalty by ensuring regular contact and comprehensive support. Ultimately, it opens up the opportunity to generate additional revenue through both robot maintenance and the potential to sell additional products.

This holistic approach makes it possible to offer customers everything from a single source, from initial consultation to implementation and ongoing maintenance.

This not only creates a variety of tasks for employees, but also strengthens customer relationships and the company's position on the market.

Maintenance training for robots from Mitsubishi Electric

Below we offer maintenance training for our articulated robots and Scara robot systems.

The training courses cover the inspection and maintenance of the robot systems. We adapt flexibly to your needs: The training courses can be held both on our training systems in our service centres or on our robots from your own application at your site.

We are also happy to offer customised solutions and long-term term options at the customer's request.

Predictive maintenance and preventive maintenance with user-friendly AI

Mitsubishi Electric robots can be equipped with the innovative MelfaSmart Plus, a modular AI card. This card contains AI functions that enable extremely efficient and early maintenance.

The AI function Predictive Maintenance helps to reduce robot failures by recognising deviations in the programme sequence. This reduces the downtimes of production systems.

The Preventive Maintenance AI function monitors the operating status of the robot and helps to manage the condition of the robot. Maintenance is now even more efficient.

Advantages of AI predictive and preventive maintenance

The AI Predictive Maintenance function offers many benefits, including:

  • Preventing robot failures by monitoring more parts than just grease and the timing belt
  • Increasing the service life of parts through maintenance simulation
  • Optimisation of production processes through optimal use of robots
  • More user-specific robot maintenance by issuing recommendations based on the load

AI predictive and preventive maintenance functions

The AI Predictive Maintenance function performs many functions. Click on the following aspects for more information:

Calculation of the degree of wear of parts in real time

The Preventative Maintenance function uses artificial intelligence to calculate the degree of wear of the following robot components in real time:

  • grease
  • Toothed belt
  • bearings
  • ball screw

The AI function recognises anomalies in drive components and issues timely warnings. Thanks to the comprehensive inspection, potential damage to the motor, gearbox or bearings can be recognised at an early stage.

Recommendation of a user-specific maintenance plan

The Preventive Maintenance function uses AI to recommend the period until the next maintenance based on the current application. This can serve as the basis for a robot maintenance cycle.

The AI function provides a simple, predictive and efficient way to plan maintenance.

Evaluation of product service life through maintenance simulation

The maintenance simulation in the AI Predictive Maintenance function enables the service life of the robot to be assessed before an application or production line is set up.

The aim of the maintenance simulation is to optimise the process cycle so that the service life of the parts is maximised.

The results from the maintenance simulation can be used to make important adjustments to optimise the process cycle before a system or production line is built - such as repositioning a robot.

This simulation can use AI to visualise and evaluate specific effects on the service life of the robot components. The simulation is carried out online on a real robot or with a simulated robot within the RT ToolBox3. The robot executes a programme from a defined starting point to an end point. Based on the collected data, a service life forecast is created.

Timely notification of required maintenance

The AI Predictive Maintenance function uses AI to activate notifications when a component has reached a certain degree of wear or only has a certain number of days left before an inspection is required.

Notifications regarding upcoming maintenance can be sent in two ways: by an acoustic signal or by a visual warning message.

Cloud application for standardised maintenance of all robots

Mitsubishi Electric offers a Robot Cloud Maintenance solution to enable the intelligent and efficient management of robots in production lines.

This solution addresses the challenge of extracting diagnostic information from each robot and provides the ability to easily and consistently monitor the status and condition of all robots.

Advantages of the cloud solution

Cloud maintenance offers many advantages, including

  • Time savings through holistic extraction of diagnostic information on all robots
  • Holistic management for a mix of different systems and robot manufacturers
  • Fast recording of the status and conditions of all robots
  • Proactive maintenance model instead of a reactive maintenance model

Cloud maintenance functions

Cloud maintenance offers many functions, including

  • Creation of a standardised and easy-to-use solution for robot maintenance
  • Visualisation of maintenance information, alarm statuses and historical data
  • Integration with ERP systems to automatically create maintenance orders based on customisable error rules
  • Integrated support of the digital twin concept to accelerate application development and mass inventory configuration
