MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC Changes for the Better

The force sensor can be used with the MELFA RV-FR and RH-FR robot series, and is available for the CR750/751 and CR800 controllers.

Force Sensor for Robots

Force sensors help to significantly simplify processes and work steps. Using preset roboter parameters, the force sensor measures and regulates the pressure or force with which the robot arm interacts with its environment.

This makes it possible, for example, to adjust the robot’s applied force and contact behavior during a work process. The robot can adapt its movements based on the surface properties of the object being processed, according to its compliance or damping characteristics.

When processing an object, the robot can move in any direction while maintaining a constant force. This enables processing tasks such as polishing and grinding.

In addition, the teaching effort for the robot is significantly reduced, as position and force data are recorded in real time and can be reused for programming similar tasks. This allows the robot to quickly adapt to new processes without extensive manual re-teaching.

Further functions at a glance:

Features of the force control for the robot arm

MELFA sense control

  1. Force control: Function for controlling robots using a specified force.
  2. Stiffness control: Function for controlling the stiffness of the robot’s sensor system.
  3. Gain control: Function for adjusting the control characteristics during operation.

MELFA sense detection

  1. Interrupt processing: When the specified force or torque is exceeded, an interrupt can be triggered.
  2. Contact detection: Function for detecting force sensor and robot positions upon contact.
  3. Reference detection: Function for displaying force sensor data and holding maximum values.

MELFA sense logging

  1. Data synchronization: Capture force sensor information synchronized with position data, store it as log data, and display it graphically.
  2. Start/stop trigger: Enables the specification of controlled start/stop commands in robot programs.
  3. FTP data transfer: Function for transferring captured log files to an FTP server.
